We’ve partnered with Spotify!
We are excited to announce that we’ve teamed up with the team at Spotify UK and will be coaching the Sound Up programme winners in 2020.
It’s been quite the journey getting to this point. Here’s how it played out:
We presented a small session for Spotify’s first UK Sound Up programme in 2018. We treated the cohort to a trip down Bernard’s microphone memory lane. If anyone can talk about the do’s and don’ts of microphones it’s our B! He spoke about what he’s learned during his many years working in audio, and passed on some of the knowledge that Bernard wished he’d learned before making some very costly mistakes!
You can read all about Bernard’s history with microphones here.
In 2019, Spotify headed to Manchester to give opportunities to women in other parts of the country with their Sound Up programme. This time around, we facilitated a workshop on podcast production – sharing the tools of the trade and helping the cohort to familiarise themselves with their new recording kit.
At the beginning of the session, we helped them unbox and set up their new Zoom H5s; some a little daunted by the funny looking contraption. Five hours later, filled with excitement. From a storytelling format using the elevator door sound as an evolving mechanic to a two-minute interview which revealed layer after layer after layer, we heard the possibilities achieved with the kit.
Spotify’s Director of Content Partnerships said: “Bernard and the Unedited team are best in class and a core supporter of the Sound Up program since launch… they are simply amazing at what they do!”
The transformation during the workshop just as rewarding for us as it was for the cohort. It is easily the highlight of last year.
So for the next year, we’re going to take the four grant recipients on the ‘oh that’s what it means to make a podcast’ learning curve. We’ll be there every step of the way, sharing our expertise, experience and contacts.
We look forward to getting started! You will already know that diversity is something very close to our hearts. This partnership with Spotify is another way we help make that happening.
We’ve hosted panels at London Podcast Festivals, made it our mission to give a voice to those underserved by the mainstream, and we’ve championed others who are doing their part to make our industry more representative. Here’s to making more progress with incredible partnerships this year.
